Yoga mini-training:

Anatomy, alignment and asanas

A 12-hour weekend intensive for yoga students and teachers.

An interactive (and fun) look at individual anatomy, intentional alignment, and the ins and outs of some of yoga’s most common postures.

Yoga alignment is about as one-size-fits-all as the slippers they give you at the spa.

By the end of the weekend, you’ll be able to personalise your asana practice with confidence - no more micromanaging your movements, following outdated alignment cues, or forcing yourself into shapes that are really uncomfortable.

First, let me tell you a story…

PART ONE ➜ SWIPE TO READ ➜

  • I’m a self-confessed perfectionist...

…so naturally, when I first started yoga, I wanted to be “perfect” at asana too.

  • I followed every alignment rule like a star student:

Hips square in Warrior 1, shin parallel for Pigeon, elbows hugging my ribs in Chaturanga.

  • My tailbone was tucked.

  • My core was engaged.

  • My knees were at 90 degrees in every lunge.

  • I couldn’t understand why I was doing everything right...

    but it all felt so…wrong?

That disconnect - between what I was being told to do and what my body was experiencing - is what this training is all about.

When I started geeking out about anatomy, my whole approach to asana changed.

And that shift is exactly what I’m going to share with you over the weekend.

What you’ll learn

Young woman in workout clothes laughing and holding a water bottle.
Multiple people in Warrior 2 with arms extended in a room with wooden ceiling and white wall.
Person stretching with yoga strap, wearing colorful leggings with animal patterns, and socks with cartoon animals, on a yoga mat indoors.
Woman with brown hair in a ponytail smiling and reaching out with arms extended in Warrior 2 yoga pose.

  • When I first found yoga, I did what a lot of keen, well-intentioned students do...

  • I followed the rules.

  • When I first started teaching...

…I repeated those same rules to my students.

  • But it didn’t take long to notice something wasn't right.

What worked for one student didn’t make sense for another - and a lot of yoga alignment cues didn’t hold up anatomically.

  • That realisation sparked a fascination - and still present passion - to dive deeper.

I wanted to understand the why behind the what.

  • I began learning all about anatomy, biomechanics, and neuroscience...

…and what I discovered fundamentally changed my relationship with asana, and movement in general.

That was the shift that took me from a yoga instructor, to a yoga teacher.

This workshop will help you achieve similar shifts - whether you’re a student who follows the rules, or a teacher who still relies on them.

What makes this training different?

No Latin lists or boring lectures

You’ll get clear explanations in plain English. No memorising random muscle names you’ll just forget by Monday.

Applied, not abstract

Everything is linked back to real asanas, real bodies, and real movement. If you can’t use the information on your mat, it’s useless.

The power of “it depends”

You’ll leave with the ability to make your own choices, and the confidence to personalise your practice in a way that works for you.

Embodied learning

This is an interactive weekend with plenty of movement and playtime - not hours of sitting and listening.

It’s fun

I believe that learning is more effective in a lighthearted environment. There are no tests, no trick questions, and no stupid answers.

Close-up side profile of a woman with dark hair and makeup, with a blurred person in the background wearing a blue top.
People practicing yoga or stretching on yoga mats with blocks and props in a room.
Person in black leggings doing a yoga pose on a black mat, with a wooden floor in the background.
Group of women practicing yoga in a studio, sitting cross-legged with hands on knees, focusing in meditation.

This weekend is for you if…

You’re interested in alignment cues.

Where they come from, what they really mean, and if it’s actually good advice.

You’ve ever felt confused by contradictory advice.

When one teacher says this, but another says that.

The common cues aren’t working.

Hands under shoulders and knees at 90 degrees are your default (even though they don't feel good), and your low back is sore, despite always engaging your core.

You’ve hit a wall.

Certain things, like stepping your foot between your hands, or holding your heels in Camel, feel impossible no matter how hard you practice.

You’re curious about anatomy.

And enjoy little aha! moments and lightbulb level understanding.

You’re a yoga teacher who wants to make a difference.

You know yoga is for everybody, but you’d love some extra support to make it accessible for every body. Don’t worry, I’ve got you!

But it’s not for you if…

The thought of breaking the rules brings you out in a rash.

Full disclosure: we’ll do Warrior 1 with wonky hips and Chair pose with an un-tucked tailbone. You’ve been warned.

Here’s an overview of everything we’ll cover together…

The training combines interactive lectures, thoughtful discussions, and plenty of playtime on your mat.

Rather than looking at each topic in isolation, the theory and application will overlap and complement each other throughout the weekend.
