Many people use breathwork to calm their mind, feel more grounded, or to compliment an asana practice.

All of that is valuable, but…

If your breathing returns to your regular rhythm straight after, nothing fundamental has actually changed. Isolated techniques aren’t going to give you long-lasting results - but this workshop will. ;)

This isn’t another pranayama workshop - it’s better.

I’m not going to teach you Nadi Shodhana or Square Breath - I’m guessing you already know those.

Instead, I’ll show you how to work with your breath in a more contextual (and beneficial) way - so whether you’re doing sun salutations, or you’re stuck in a traffic jam, you can make the most of each inhale and every exhale.

What you’ll learn

01

How breathing actually works - both anatomically and energetically.

And what this means in practice - especially for things like belly breathing, or taking a “deep” breath.

Why control can be counterproductive.

And why sometimes it feels more stressful than soothing.

02

03

How to actually enjoy breathing.

If breathing feels boring, and repetitive rhythms feel robotic, this will bring the feel-good factor back. Less mechanical, more meaningful.

04

Explore the different dimensions of breathing.

The placement, time, texture, intensity, and energy of each breath - and why this matters more than you might think.

05

How your breath affects your asana practice.

Yoga transitions are usually done on certain breaths - like inhaling to Three-Legged Dog, or exhaling to fold forwards. This approach has both pros and cons, and sometimes “opposite” breathing is actually more beneficial.

This workshop is for you if…

Breathing is an add-on in your asana practice.

You know your breath is important, but it’s also kind of boring and usually ends up being background noise.

You know some pranayama techniques, but…

Besides a few minutes of alternate nostril breathing at the start of practice, you don’t pay much attention to your breath for the other 1437 minutes of each day.

You worry you’re breathing wrong.

Whenever the teacher cues “inhale” you’re doing an exhale, and it constantly feels like you’re trying to keep up compared to the rest of class. It’s not relaxing - it’s stressful.

You’re ready to move beyond the basics - by going back to basics.

You want useable information you can instantly apply to your next breath, and explore both on and off your mat. Sometimes re-setting the foundations is exactly what you need to actually deepen your practice.
